This South African bulb is somewhat of a night owl. The flowers open in the late afternoon (but early enough to get to enjoy them) and are closed by morning. It blooms in early spring. The flowers have six petals, three of which have pink backs. The white and pink alternate, creating a neat pinwheel effect. The front of the flowers are all white.
Spiloxene (Cape star) is a genus of plant species belonging to the Hypoxidaceae family. Spiloxene species are native to South Africa and Namibia.

Lapeirousia oreogena grows in the western portion of South Africa. This little plant is a member of the iris family.
Flowering time: Mainly flowering in late winter, spring and summer (June to January) in most South African species, although four species flower during the drier period between December and June.
