KLEIN CONSTANTIA

DATING BACK TO 1685 and described as one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates, Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay.

Klein Constantiia originally formed part of “Constantia”, a vast property established in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape. This particular valley was chosen not only for its beauty, but also for the decomposed granite soils on its slopes, gently cooled by ocean breezes.

Cornwall Park is Hastings’ oldest and most established park, full of beautiful plant life, enormous trees, playgrounds, a Chinese garden, cricket clubrooms and playing fields.

I found this impressive stone fountain ( Well I think it was a fountain 🙂  )which sadly does not work….

WEST COAST FARMSTALL

A little hideaway, midway up the West Coast where one can find the tranquility of the countryside and still be within easy reach of Cape Town.

Here you can relax with cup of coffee or tea, enjoy a typical home cooked meal or just browse through the Farm Stall for that something special.

Langebaan is not entirely devoted to the outdoors. For culture lovers, there are a Gallery in this square where the work of local artists, in various media, including paintings, sculpture and textiles are displayed.IMG_20160418_102310

Marra Square on Bree Street, right in the heart of Langebaan were I also found this fountain and a coffee shop.

Constantia Glen is ideally located below Constantia Nek, just moments from the bustling Cape Town city centre. DSC_0239This picturesque boutique wine estate produces ultra-premium, cool climate wines. DSC_0252Constantia is the oldest wine producing region in South Africa dating back to 1685.DSC_0256

Constantia Glen has a unique position cradled between the Constantiaberg and Table Mountain (World Heritage Site) ranges, with predominantly north-east facing slopes. This location allows for exposure to late afternoon sun, ideal for the slow ripening of the grapes.

I  found this beautiful fountain at the Castle of Good Hope – the oldest building in South Africa – which was once a fort, but today functions as a showcase of the Cape’s early days.

Built by Jan van Riebeeck and the Dutch East India Company, the building, which is an example of a “star fort”, was completed in 1679. The building’s 18th-century décor has been restored and it now functions as a popular museum.
