Cathy’s Words and Herbs’ challenge for one week.
Guzmanias (Bromeliads)

Bromeliads give you more of a modern feel and are very long-lasting when grown as houseplants. Guzmanias are popular blooming houseplants that are sold year-round and are easy to find.

Their star-shaped bracts in red, as shown above, are very appropriate for the season although you can find them in other colors too.

Lovely colour. I love bromeliads but in our hot and humid climate, they are the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. KZN

This was a lovely warm burst of colour to wake up to Aletta! I have never grown one of these but often see pink ones in our garden centre. The red is perfect for Christmas. Thanks for sharing!

Love Bromeliads. They cover the telephone lines here. The seeds stick to the feet of birds, they perch on the lines and leave the seeds behind.

Oh wow, that’s a problem then, isn’t it?

They don’t interfere with transmission and I sorta like them. They are little round balls with tiny flowers sticking out on thin arms..

I recall seeing a bed of these blooming in a garden in East London a few years ago – they looked really beautiful with so many of them together.
