garden photography : more wildlife in my garden

In March Jude is  looking for Wildlife in the Garden

The southern fiscal or fiscal shrike (Lanius collaris) is a member of the shrike family found through most of Sub-Saharan Africa. DSC_0251 (3)It is also sometimes named jackie hangman or butcher bird due to its habit of impaling its prey on acacia thorns to store the food for later consumption.DSC_0254 (2) It was previously lumped together with the northern fiscal (Lanius humeralis). Together they were known as the common fiscal.

  1. Sorry to be late to visit you Aletta. Busy moving so not on the computer so much! Love your first image, and I never knew the common names for this bird. Clever even if a bit gruesome!
    Thanks for the link.
