Bench series #20

For the month of May Jude is looking for benches at the beach.

I spend Friday morning in Hermanus (originally called Hermanuspietersfontein, but shortened as the name was too long for the postal service). This town is on the southern coast of the Western Cape province of South Africa and is famous for southern right whale watching. The whales can be seen from the cliffs in the town centre as early as June and usually depart in early December. IMG_6663They were once hunted in the nearby town of Betty’s Bay, but are now protected to ensure the survival of the species. The Old Harbour Museum contains several exhibitions that explain the whaling industry.

I am also linking this post to Raewyn’s blog:  decocraftsdigicrafts,  for the five photos five stories challenge.( Day 3)

This is the second round  of this challenge for me, and I would like any one that would like to join in this great challenge to do so!

  1. Now that is a bench on the edge! Lovely views. I like Hermanus, it is a very charming town. Never been there in August/September though to see the whales. That must be an amazing sight. I was lucky to see a pair come into False Bay once. Magic!
