The quince (/ˈkwɪns/; Cydonia oblonga) is the sole member of the genus Cydonia in the family Rosaceae (which also contains apples and pears, among other fruits).IMG_5450 It is a small deciduous tree that bears a pome fruit, similar in appearance to a pear, and bright golden-yellow when mature.

The immature fruit is green with dense grey-white pubescence, most of which rubs off before maturity in late autumn when the fruit changes colour to yellow with hard, strongly perfumed flesh. IMG_5452

  1. I don’t think we have quince here, but we have a close relative, a bush called the flowering quince. My mom has made jam of the fruit. I think she added some apples to the jam as well.

  2. Ons het n kweperboom in ons tuin gehad as kind. Toe op n stadium het mens dit nie gesien nie. Op oomblik is dit besig om weer in winkels te verskyn. Maak lekker nagereg
