Floral Friday : Anthurium

Anthurium , is a genus of about 1000 species of flowering plants, the largest genus of the arum family, Araceae.IMG_3959

General common names include anthurium, tailflowerflamingo flower and laceleaf.IMG_4041

The genus is native to the Americas, where it is distributed from northern Mexico to northern Argentina and parts of the Caribbean.IMG_3971

The only ones you’re likely to see in the garden  are the flowering varieties with their multicolored spathes and red or yellow tail-like flower spikes.

Native to tropical rain forests throughout Central and South America, many anthuriums are climbers and all need very high humidity and warmth to thrive.
